Creative goals of 2016 – how to stay organised and creative in the new year.
As a creative person it is sometimes a challenge to stay organised and come up with new ideas at the same time. Some people have superb abilities to do this, I’m not sure how, but I would love to get better at it! Ideas float in and out of my head like a yo-yo sometimes, so I need tools to make them stay, because I have a superbly short memory :-S So I use lists & notebooks, digital as well as paper ones. Around my home and workspace I probably have 10+ notebooks lying about. Some are full, but I keep them to be able to go back and glance…

Snowy Hovdala castle and archaeology memories
During last weekend I went off on a little excursion, to take some winter photos before this cold season ends. And that was apparently a good idea, because currently, its +5 degrees and the snow, which was lying so thick and beautiful, has melted completely! Oh well, I guess now we only have to wait “a few” months till springtime comes around! The Hovdala castle buildings have been placed on the same location for many hundred years, outside of Hässleholm in eastern Skåne. Because of it’s location, it played an important role during the Swedish- Danish wars during the 1600’s. I’ve visited the site on several occasions, and also participated…

Things that appear by accident in your photographs..
Castles for birds Sometimes photographs capture things you didn’t know existed, small details in a landscape or on a building that you missed when you were too busy looking through the viewfinder for the perfect composition. This happened to me when I went to dig up some old photos from Istanbul to edit. And there it was; something I had never heard of and never took any notice of on my visit to the grand old city; birdhouses on buildings! Now, normally I suppose birdhouses are not unusual in any sort of way, but I’m used to seeing them in trees or in the garden, not 60 meters up on…

Moody landscape
As spring is arriving in a fast pace, I suppose I should be mooning over images of budding flowers, gardening…? But going through some old photos (as one does from time to time!) I felt inspired to do some moody landscapes. I do not really do much landscapes, so maybe its time I did?! I picked this one from a beach on Crete, it was a windy autumn day, and the storm was gathering strength: *I thought I might as well do a “before and after” for You 🙂

Travel photography and documentation
I photograph a lot of different things when I visit new places; anything from the local people, historical sites, buildings and well…pretty much anything you can think of! I often reflect on why I have chosen to photograph a particular thing, was it because it was pretty or said something special about the place? Was it because I wanted to ‘document’? I suppose any photograph is documentation of some sort, just look at the millions of seemingly ordinary people and things that can now be seen on Instagram, for example. When I visit places with ‘social issues’ such as poverty, I try and take extra care in how I document…

Crazy spam invasion!!
My website seems to be suffering from an almighty spam invasion, I´m recieving 100´s of “comments” everyday from unknown senders, most of them make no sense what so ever and have no connection to the content of the website and blog 🙁 This is slowing me down, as Im having to sit and read them all and delete…so if anyone has commented in the last couple of weeks but feel their comments have not been responded to, this is the reason! If you have any questions regarding my work or about advertising (legitimate), please email me instead 🙂 info@sophiemcaulay.se Have a great day 🙂

South Turkey
If one is to summarize Turkey into one word, it would have to be: COLOUR. Colourful people, skies, knick-knacks and mosques dominate what I think about when I think about Turkey. So far I have been there twice, and I will certainly go back! It kind of grows on you…I mean; those cute cats everywhere (I love cats :), beautiful mosques and ancient buildings (I LOUUVVEEE buildings), and oh my gosh: the food is fan-fantastic! Is that enough adjectives for you? No?? How about intriguing smells, people who talk very fast in order to make a sale, hot Mediterranean water, trees with delicious olives, pomegranates, lemons and…and… and… The main…

Thailand i mitt hjärta

Men alltid intressanta! Ibland kan det vara svårt att fånga dess inre själ på ett foto, men det är väl värt ett försök. Och i Istanbul finns många spännande byggnader Bilderna nedan är från Hagia Irene, som byggdes på 300-talet, då Istanbul…
